"I have something to do." Melody says as she enters the back door in a frantic state.

"What do you need to do? Take those shoes off, please." Momma says.

"I touchted a mushroom and I have to wash my hands." nearly in tears.

"Okay." Momma says under her breath, trying not to laugh.

I promise, I never told these children that the mushrooms were poisonous, but it appears I don't have to! They are already scared to death to touch them!

Sunday Sundry's

I almost forgot!

Powdered Laundry Detergent
You'll need:
Borax
Washing Soda
Oxygen Bleach (OxiClean)
1 bar soap (we use Fels Naptha Laundry soap)
1 gallon bucket with lid (ice cream buckets work great for this)

Grate the bar of soap into the bucket. Add 2 cups Borax, 2 cups Washing Soda, and 2 cups Oxygen bleach. Mix thoroughly. (You may add a few drops of essential oil as you like)

Use 1/2 cup per wash load.

Sunday Sundry's

Hello! Every Sunday I am going to post a new homemade cleaner recipe. Try it. Let me know what you think of it. Okay? Okay!

All Purpose Cleaner
you'll need:
24 ounce bottle with spray nozzle
12 ounces distilled water
12 ounces hydrogen peroxide
5-6 drops lavender essential oil (or your favorite essential oil)
Directions
In the 24 ounce bottle, pour in the water, then the peroxide and add essential oil. Put the spray nozzle on and give it a shake. Voila!

As with any other cleaner, tough spots may need to be sprayed and allowed to 'soak' for a few minutes.

Happy cleaning!

Photo Shoot

A friend from church came out today to take some photos of our little homestead and me and the children.
She is beginning her Master's this fall and wanted to do her documentary on our family. We were more than happy to oblige. So, today was her first day out.

She came a bit late, so I milked Caiti late, but got a good milking out of her. She'll be back another day, and when she gives me the proofs, I'll post them on our website at www.opendoorsfarm.wordpress.com

of Kids and Children

We stopped calling our children "kids" for two reasons.

1. We decided to distinguish between the goat kids and the human children. They are children, not kids.

2. Goats are ornery. Humans, though they may be ornery at times, should never be pronounced as that. We choose to speak blessings over our children, not cursings.

Some may see this as trivial, but it means a lot to us.
So, there you have it.
